Deborah Joy Cafiero has extensive experience as a freelance editor for the trade book market, specializing in the intensive editorial collaboration known as “book doctoring.” Additionally, she prepares proposals for submission to agencies and publishers.

Her publishing experience includes positions with Van der Leun & Associates Literary Agency in Easton, CT, and Lowenstein Associates Literary Agency in New York, NY.

Other titles currently under agency representation include a horror novel, spiritual/literary manuscript on the Virgin Mary, a self-help proposal presenting a medical breakthrough, a proposal on the history of love, and a memoir.

She began her editorial career at a scientific journal published by NASA, and she continues to follow trends in physics, cosmology, neurobiology, evolutionary theory and psychology. Her areas of greatest editorial interest, as well as experience, are popular science/medicine, literary nonfiction, and self-help. Her recent experience also includes editing treatments for film and television, short stories, and magazine articles.
